The name poker did not emerge suddenly nor is it a game of some region or a particular tribe. It has been given different names in different continents of the world. How ever it is acknowledged now due to the over expanding media attention and international tournaments held for playing poker. The number of players is increasing day by day and some of the players play it for fun and some adopt it as a profession. Playing it professionally or at amateur level in the casinos. There are many types even linked with countries expanding more than hundred. The most common of them played in casinos normally are draw poker, Texas Holdem poker and stud.
The standard rules are almost the same for every type of poker game, the players are given couple of cards face down and there is a set of cards facing up at the table. Germany has its own history relating to poker where it is called as Pachen and in France it was called as Poque. All these names are found back in 16th century when this game might be played as a national or local game of those countries.

The history of poker says that in America it was started to be played a bit before civil war. At that time poker name was not even known to any of the people but they did know about 3 cards Monte that they liked and played too at that time. With the passage of time Poker gained popularity more than Monte. Around mid 18th century, a complete set of cards containing all cards were started to be used.
The time changed the game of poker from just fun and said to be a game of luck to be more structured form and a bit difficult in strategy. Many professional and old players have written books on how to make a best hand to win the game and make the game more of a serious business.
After the civil war every card club or bar having tables for players attracted the game. The settlers and people coming from different regions of the United States started to learn the common language of the cards that is known as Poker.
